H. Ross (Hiroshi) Kawamura
A Biographical Note about the Founder
H. Ross (Hiroshi) Kawamura earned a BA degree in political science
from Keio University and an MSc in international political economy
from the London School of Economics. Primarily focusing on liberal
world order under British and American hegemony at the LSE, soon lead
him to become an ardent proponent of 'benevolent imperialism' for
the purposes of upholding global stability and prosperity.
Later on, he became involved in various NGO activities related to
globalization and the environment. In addition, he translated a book
on the political economy of globalization and environmental conflict
entitled The Last Great Forest: Japanese Multinationals and Alberta's
Northern Forest (by Ryokufu Press), with Yoichi Kuroda, an environmental
activist.
A firm believer in the role of civil conduct in the pursuit of humanitarian
goals and global democracy, he has become increasingly concerned about
the prevailing leftist tendencies and populist attitudes which are
in antagonism, and often confrontation, with the orthodox international
political economy. As a student of Pax Americana and devotee of benevolent
imperialism, ultimately he felt it necessary to advocate and organize
in order to defend these established thoughts.
More recently, he has been attending international conferences held
at various venues ranging from Washington, DC, to@London, to his own
home turf@of Tokyo, all in the name of furthering his mission.
